Arts and Sciences
The Division
The Arts & Sciences Division is one of four academic
divisions at the Technical College of the Lowcountry.
The other divisions are Business
Technology Division, Health
Sciences Division, and Industrial
Technology Division. The Arts & Sciences Division
offers the general education courses for all programs at
the College as well as the college transfer programs.
In addition, the Division provides access to developmental
education courses for students who need to develop or refresh
essential skills in reading, English, and mathematics.
General Education
General Education serves an important purpose in all academic programs at the Technical College of the Lowcountry. In all professions, people must possess essential critical thinking skills and be proficient in reading, writing, and mathematics. These skills enhance employment opportunities, chances for advancement and promotion, and quality of life. General Education courses are an integral part of the curriculum in all associate degree and diploma programs.
Developmental Education
Developmental Education courses are provided for students whose test scores indicate they may not be prepared to successfully complete college level curriculum courses. These English, reading, and mathematics courses provide the opportunity for students to acquire the essential academic skills needed to attain their goals successful in a chosen curriculum. In addition to classroom instruction, the Developmental Education faculty provide academic counseling for students enrolled in Developmental English, Reading and Mathematics courses.
