Community Investment
Dr. Stuart Rosenfeld completed an economic development study for the South Carolina Policy Council in March 2004 in which he states, “one of the most valuable tools in a successful economic development strategy is our state’s two-year technical college system.” His statement clearly denotes the significant opportunity that the Technical College of the Lowcountry provides to citizens in our region. Especially those citizens who intend to continue their education and develop job skills at an institution that permits minimal travel and offers tuition at a reasonable cost.

So why is it so important for the Foundation to support the College? While the college is a part of the state’s higher education system and draws funds from surrounding county governments, private support is imperative in order to bridge the gap between state and county funds and the delivery of quality education.

An institution providing the community with educated and trained employees who possess the human and technical skills necessary to sustain a quality of life also lends to creating economic viability. When a resident calls for HVAC repair or requires health care assistance, there is great comfort in knowing a qualified individual is ready and available. And that’s what TCL is all about – providing multi-skill training to meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s employees. Everyone wins -- community members are confident that they receive exceptional service, local employers have a sustainable workforce that can handle next generation jobs, and members of the workforce are better able to provide a quality life for themselves and their families.

Having said that, there are many ways one can help TCL -- scholarships, equipment purchases, laboratory upgrades, endowed programs -- and many other possibilities. By supporting TCL, we develop individuals, help improve the community, and provide for a better country.
